Alicja Kamaj – Wearable Art & Emotional Fashion Objects

Here comes an invitation to acknowledge vulnerability — and to submit one’s body to it. In my practice, I explore the intimacy and emotional weight woven into the garments we wear. I let their story guide me and accept the outcomes — not without discomfort, but with trust.

SKINNING OVER

Skinning Over is a collection of garment-objects merging organic,
creature-like forms with fragments of post-consumer
clothing. It explores the relationship between body, garment,
and environment as equal elements, where clothing becomes
a second skin—protective, wounded, and emotionally charged.
Steel wire, once hidden in women’s garments to shape their bodies,
is now exposed. It pierces the fabric and touches the skin
like electrical currents—connecting, grounding, and unsettling. The
tension between soft felted wool and harsh metal creates a sensory
experience, where the viewer is invited to become the wearer.
By turning this second skin inside out, Skinning Over reveals the
fragile soul beneath our protective surface.
